Story
Adrian and Owen (Joanne's son who previously served in the Royal Navy as a Marine Engineer) are 'Team Demob Job' running this year’s Great North Run in loving memory of Ethan Adams, Kelly’s (a Demob Job employee) former childminder’s youngest son.
Here is Kelly's story:
At the age of 8 years old, in December 2020 out of nowhere, what was thought to be toothache turned into every parent’s worst nightmare. Ethan was diagnosed with Parameningeal Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare type of cancer that forms in the soft tissue.
Ethan lost his life on 5th August 2021, just a week after his 9th birthday.
If you were lucky enough to ever meet Ethan, he was such a carefree happy boy who loved playing jokes on people, he laughed all the time and played football nonstop.
Watching Ethan’s journey was heartbreaking, he hardly ever complained, he faced every test, procedure, and treatment with the biggest smile and blew us all away with his courage and absolute awesomeness!
So why are we running the Great North Run for Children’s Cancer North?
There is a saying ‘it’s not till you are in the cancer bubble that you realise what is involved’
Children’s Cancer North is an independent charity with over
40 years of heritage supporting individuals and families affected by children’s cancer.
The main objectives of the Children’s Cancer North are:
1. Invest in revolutionary research
2. Provide support for children and their families
3. Raise awareness of children’s cancer
Personally, we saw the support Children’s Cancer North provided
to Tracey, Mark, Ethan, Evan & Ellie. We want to say ‘Thank You’ to everyone at The Royal Victoria Infirmary Ward 4/14, to the radiotherapy staff at the Freeman, and a very special thanks
to Quentin Campbell Hewson who is the lead for clinical trials and consultant paediatric oncologist.
Everyone involved went above and beyond caring, supporting, and loving Ethan even after he was no longer here. Thank you for looking after my friends so much.
Please support us to raise as much money as possible to continue the research into children’s cancer and hopefully, one day, stop other
families going through this devastating heartbreak.
Thank you for your support!
