HELLO ALL!

Next year (January 2013) I plan to Volunteer with Lattitude Global Volunteers, a non-profit international youth development charity, who's aim is to educate and develop young people worldwide by providing opportunities for them to make a positive difference to the lives of others through a distinctive, challenging, structured and supported international volunteering experience in a culture and community different from my own. After a successful interview I have now paid my deposit to secure my place.

 As a Volunteer I will be contributing my skills and knowledge to make a positive impact in a Fijian community. Through the placement I will have to challenge myself in a variety of different ways growing as an individual and gaining transferable skills whilst becoming more independent. By taking part in this community project within Fiji I will work within communities to provide assistance to disadvantaged groups; working with street children, youth organisations, and undertaking education and awareness programmes to highlight issues such as HIV and Aids.

Within the overall cost Lattitude Global Volunteers supports you:

• Before you depart; guiding trip organisation, giving safety tips, booking group flights, and ensuring suitable travel/medical insurance

• Upon arrival; with an orientation learning about the new environment, culture and settling in

• During the placement; I will be appointed a dedicated Mentor who will provide guidance and assistance with my duties as a volunteer. An 24-hour emergency phone line is also available throughout the placement

• By including all accommodation and food

• After the placement; giving references to universities/future jobs

To take part in this unique opportunity I need to raise a total of £5000. Meaning I need to get Fundraising! I am looking forward to living and working with people from a different culture then sharing my experiences of community volunteering abroad with others on my return.
