Story
In memory of my lovely sister Ruth, who left this world far too soon. She loved the rich tapestry of life but couldn't love herself. Since the start of covid in March 2020 she had struggled with her mental health and couldn't find a way through.
I want to raise money in her memory for a project close to her heart called ' One Community '. This helps support people with mental health issues while in hospital and more importantly, once they are discharged and return back to their own lives, they can continue to have a link to it. As well as gardening, 'One Community' has a variety of support groups such as ' Beautiful people', 'Well read/Well written', a walking group and also use of a community space at BAY20 in West London.
Ruth wrote this about the project:
" The One Community garden sits under the Victorian bridges in the grounds of St Charles Hospital. The One Community plot belongs to a community of people who have or have had mental health problems. It is run by the wonderful Kate who is extraordinarily encouraging. The One Community garden has been running for over two years. It's a beautiful space and provides service users fresh air and a chance to learn about growing vegetables. There is always refreshments on hand too. I think the service users get a lot out of the project, it gives them confidence plus each week they can see the progress their planting has made"
