Story
Since my gastric surgery in late 2014 I have lost over 10 stone (65Kg) in weight and kept the weight off now for over two and half years. I am now enjoying life more than ever, especially since I am now healthier and fitter and move active.
My new physically fitter body has taken me up Mt Kilimanjaro and through the challenge that is Tough Mudder. These days I walk, cycle and also run most nights and weekends. I am not built for speed when it comes to running as I'm mid 50's and have weak knees and ankles but I want to push myself and I feel I am ready for the challenge of a half marathon. The Great Eastern Run in Peterborough is on my doorstep so I have no excuses but to get training and join take up the challenge in October.
It sounds easy to some, but running 13 miles will be a genuine challenge for a novice runner, but I am determined to do it and to finish. In doing this challenge I want to help others by raising money for Cancer Research UK. Cancer is the most terrible of illnesses and it took my father Gurdial Singh Rathore from me 22 years ago, and my father in law Darshan Singh Bhatti 2 years ago, both were older gentlemen but with so much still to look forward to. Cancer is now back in my life and is hurting my good friend Darren Gentle who is not only an honest and decent guy but he is also only 45 years of age. I know Darren is a fighter and will not give in easily, and neither will I until cancer is cured and can hurt no one else ever - so please help me by supporting my efforts for Cancer Research UK.
Thank You
Del Singh
