12 Hour Endurance Challenge
I have planned a 12-hour endurance challenge to raise money for St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth.
My Mum, Pat, was diagnosed with lung fibrosis 11 years ago which unfortunately took a turn for the worse last November. She was cared for at home, but it eventually became too much, and she was taken into St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth for the last 2 weeks of her life, she passed away peacefully on 19th April 2022.
Mum was so lucky to have received such a high level of support during the final stages of her life. This was only made possible due to the tremendous care provided by the staff at St Luke’s.
The Hospice needs to raise £7.8million a year to continue to run the service they offer. This would not be possible if it wasn’t for the donations and charity events like the one I've organised.
About the Challenge
The challenge will take place on Saturday 30th July, from 6pm to 6am.
It will involve a 12-hour run/walk around a 1.3-mile loop. After each lap I will complete an exercise, which will include either –
20 press-ups
10 pull ups
20 squats
I am reasonably fit but to manage expectations, I am not capable of running for 12 hours so, I will need to pace myself from the very start.
Obviously I want to complete the challenge, so I intend to mix running and walking right from the start.
If you would like to support me during the challenge, you are more than welcome to join me at 8pm to complete a lap with me. If this is something you would like to do then please meet at the bottom of Sycamore Road Latchbrook, Saltash, PL12 4XS, or alternatively you are welcome to join me at any point during the challenge, your company will be very welcomed!
Any support in terms of sponsorship would be greatly appreciated.
About St Luke’s
St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth is an independent charity providing specialist care and support to people with progressive life-limiting illnesses in Plymouth, South West Devon and East Cornwall.
Their vision is a community where no person has to die alone, in pain or distress.
Last year they cared for over 1,980 people in the local community who are living with a life-limiting illness. This specialist care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team of doctors, nurses, social workers and occupational therapists to patients and their families at home, at Derriford Hospital or at their specialist unit at Turnchapel.
