Story
Thank you for donating to Lambeth Carers Hub in loving memory of Deirdre McGowan.
Deirdre cared for everyone around her all her life, starting as a young carer for her mother and continuing throughout her long career as a nurse. After training in Derby, she moved to London and worked as a casualty nurse in A&E at King's College Hospital. She went on to work as a Health Visitor in Surrey Docks where she helped to set up a nursery that is still running today. She then moved to Paxton Green where she qualified as one of the first nurse prescribers in the country. From there she helped set up the award-winning Lambeth Diabetes team, where she became a lead nurse, dedicating her time to education and community wellbeing.
In addition to this, she completed a Masters while being a wonderful mother to Niamh and wife to Bill, a great sister, auntie, cousin and friend. Her warm, radiant smile and loving nature will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
We have chosen to support Lambeth Carers Hub because being a young carer was a formative influence in Deirdre's life. She lived and worked in Lambeth for many years and dedicated both her working and personal time to support the local community.
