Rose Jonathan is on the front line of the climate emergency, battling drought and hunger in the Kitui region of Kenya. The rains have failed and now the 67 year old widow must walk for six hours a day to collect water for herself and the six grandchildren she cares for alone, since her daughters moved away for work.

To raise money for Christian Aid Week, I have been walking in solidarity with Rose. I have the choice to do this but, sadly, Rose has no choice.

Each day in May - the fifth month - I will walk for 5 kms at 5pm carry two five litre buckets with water in them to replicate even a little of Rose's daily task. I call it my 5X5 challenge and hope to raise as much as possible to help Rose and so many others like her.
