Story
Too many people are still drowning. More than ever we need the RNLI’s help. As a charity, the RNLI depends on our donations so it can go on saving lives and keeping us and our loved ones safe. RNLI lifesavers are our lifeline. They’re the lifeboat crews who provide 24-hour search and rescue right around the UK and Ireland. The lifeguards keeping watch on 240 of the busiest beaches in the UK and Channel Islands. And the RNLI safety teams and educators working tirelessly to stop people getting into trouble in the first place. Thank you.
I've been raising money for the RNLI through running for a few years now, since I first ran the Great North Run in 2016. This year since March, the vast majority of running races have been cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19, so race fundraising has not been able to go ahead and charities like the RNLI are struggling as a result.
As such, I have decided to take on the 'mile an hour for 24 hours' challenge on Sunday 4th October, in order to complete the Virtual London Marathon in lieu of the real one that I was meant to be running on that date (and still will on a future date!). My usual mile route is 1.2 (ish) miles, so I will be completing around 28.8 miles over 24 hours - further than I have ever run in the space of 24 hours before.
I would appreciate it hugely if you could spare some funds for the RNLI. It will keep me going through the dark October night when I am going out to run every hour on the hour!
Thank you.
