Story
Reaching your life potential for anyone requires effort, but for kids experiencing familial poverty, intergenerational unemployment, social isolation, homelessness and lack of role models it's monumental.
And it's to help these kids, experiencing such disadvantage, that I am driven to run the Boston Marathon and fundraise on behalf of basis.point.
basis.point is the charity of the Irish Funds industry. They support children to reach their full potential through education, no matter their background.
I'm hoping to raise €20,000 to go towards programmes like the home visiting programme called ParentChild+. Over a two year period, Home Visitors visit young families in their homes and teach parents how to model oral language, reading and play in their twice weekly visits. The families then continue the activities in their own time, helping their child and his/her siblings to develop their language, literacy and numeracy skills and start school ready to succeed.
Running the iconic Boston Marathon will be tough, but the fundraising element will be even tougher. €20,000 will go a long way towards helping parents give their children the best start in life.
