Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The dates for the Rockies Trek have been changed by Marie Curie and we will now be doing the Trek in June 2016 - thanks to everyone that has already sponsored me - your sponsorship is safe and will still go towards my overall target.  And guess what, the trek now involves 5 days of camping out in the wilderness !

All of us have been touched over the years with the pain and sadness of loved ones, family and friends and those very dear to us suffering with and losing a painful battle with cancer.

Having lost, alongside others very close to me, my brother in law to this heartbreaking illness - I've decided to embark on a trek over the Canadian Rockies in June 2016 with my sister, to raise much needed funding to help support the work of Marie Curie and their amazing Hospice in the West Midlands.

Marie Curie provide care and support for more than 40,000 terminally ill people and their families in the UK each year.    The nurses, carers and volunteers work night and day, across the UK, providing hands-on-care and vital emotional support.  The West Midlands Hospice offer specialist round-the-clock care and support and they help individuals and families throughout their illness by giving practical information, personal care and there when someone wants to talk.

  • In 2013/2014 - Marie Curie nurses alone provided more than 1.3 million hours of nursing care to over 31,558 people.
  • Marie Curie has nine hospices across the UK providing free specialist care for those with a terminal illness.
  • It costs over £48 million a year to run all Marie Curie Hospices
  • In 2013/14 Marie Curie Hospices cared for 8,831 people.
  • Marie Curie invests around £3 million a year in palliative and end of life care research.

For every £1 that I raise through your generous donation, 70p will be spent directly on the care provided by Marie Curie, helping people with this tragic terminal illness.  This gives me a real sense of pride and achievement so I ask you all to please give generously to help me achieve my £5,000 fundraising target.

As well as a very challenging trek, I know it will be a very rewarding and enjoyable journey.   This epic eight-day trip includes five days of cam;ing (god help me) and trekking during which I hope to experience (blisters and sore feet) and the most breathtaking views imaginable. We will take a journey of over 350 kilometers - experiencing and exploring mountains, turquoise blue lakes, gleaming glaciers and enchanted forests - that must be worth a small donation ?

Thank you for your support
