Story
From 20 May - 31 May 2012, I will be travelling to Peru, where I will be running 200km through the rainforest. The race lasts over six days of varying miles, during which time, all runners are self-sufficient, carrying their hammock, food, medical supplies. Showers are scarse, sleep even more so! Details of the event can be found on the following website: www.beyondtheultimate.co.
I will be raising money and running this race in memory of Steve Cully, who sadly died in October 2011, from a heart condition aged 41, leaving his wife (Rosie) and kids, Hanah and Josh. He was a keen sportsman, having played rugby to a high standard. He represented Ireland under 21 and the British Police. Laterly he took up running and completed the Washington Marathon and the Marathon Des Sables (the equivalent of running 6 marathons over 7 days) over the Sahara, being completely self sufficient. He had been planning to compete in an Ironman event in 2013. He was a true warrior and his strength and determination were infectious to all around him. The charity is Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland, and all funds raised will go directly towards the Sapphire Tribute Fund, which was set up by his family'.
