Story
We are a group of woman dedicated to raising money for the Maggies Centres. We planned to go to Machu Picchu in Peru but covid and then civil unrest has meant that’s not possible, so we are off to Nepal to do the Mardi Hamal trek on 26 April 2023!
I am doing this trek to help give something back to Maggies who have been an amazing support to my family and I in the last few years. My husband was diagnosed with a form of leukaemia in 2018, just before our wedding. It was a huge shock to us and was the first time we visited Maggies who really helped us through that difficult time. Then shortly after that I was diagnosed with bi-lateral breast cancer in April 2019 and had to have chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy. I wasn’t able to work for almost a year, and even after that it took more than a year post treatment to start to feel well again. Maggies support was invaluable throughout the whole cancer journey and beyond and I will be forever indebted to them.
Since then cancer has continued to touch my life: I have lost one of my best friends to the cancer; my neighbour who is also a close friend is going through treatment and my mum & dad have both recently been going through treatment.
I want to do my bit to ensure all those facing the challenges cancer brings can access the amazing support I was able to through Maggies.
Maggies Centres provide such important service to people with cancer and their friends and families. They are reliant on donations, and we would like to give something back by raising £20,000, .
