Story
During half term I travelled from Portsmouth to Cherbourg. On Monday morning I cycled my first part of my challenge to Ravenoville, cycling along the coast road along Utah Beach. Day two I set off from Ravenoville-Plage to Arromanches. The route took me through Carentan, past Dead Man’s Corner, passing Grandcamp Maisy and Pointe du Hoc until I reached Omaha Beach by lunchtime. A visit to the American Cemetary before setting off again to Arromanches and Gold Beach. On D-Day I completed the remaining part of my challenge from Arromanches to Caen cycling along the coast path of Juno Beach and finishing at Sword Beach. By the end of my challenge my cycle speedo had clocked up 200 miles.
I am so pleased that I did this challenge and that doing it during this poignant D-Day week, as the atmosphere was incredible, seeing all the Veterans with all their medals who had returned to NoLots of WWII jeeps, trucks and motor cycles were out in force along the roads, in towns and on the beaches. Men, women and children dressed in WWII costume all made this a week to remember. rmandy on this 68 Anniversary made me feel very humble.
