Story
UPDATE:
We did it!
There was rain, there was fog, there were brutal thigh-burning ascents, boulders to hop and rocks to clamber over. It was a night of inspiring climbs and emotional stories shared. 40 intrepid walkers - including Metro.co.uk team and readers, PAPYRUS team and many who had lost children and friends to suicide - set off into the night on Saturday to climb Scafell Pike to raise money for this important cause.
Suicide is the biggest killer of young people in the UK - and every life lost is one too many.
On the 5 hour hike up in the dark, we heard from parents who had lost sons and daughters to suicide and friends who had lost loved ones.
It truly brought home just how important it is for us to keep walking and talking - and to keep raising money for this cause.
On the night, we spoke to Andy Airey, one of 3dadswalking, who lost his daughter Sophie to suicide. He has taken on a number of physical feats to raise money for PAPYRUS - and told us that walking next to each other and sharing conversation is a big part of what makes these challenges a success.
Walking, talking and being outside are so important to our mental health - and a big part of why we chose this night walk of Scafell Pike to raise money for PAPYRUS.
Thanks for all your donations.

Just before midnight on July 2, 2022, a group of Metro.co.uk readers, Team Metro and PAPYRUS supporters will head into the night to climb England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike.
This adventure will see our trekkers reach the summit in darkness, while finishing their journey just as the sun rises which perfectly reflects the crucial work PAPYRUS does in helping people find light during their darkest times.
All the money we raise will go to Papyrus - and our company will fund match our donations, so everything I raise will be doubled by DMG.
