As some people might know my sister rebekah in 2015 suffered a severe brain injury due to encephalitis,, it was caused by the cold sore virus. I didnt know much about rehabilitation before rebekah got sick but how quickly you learn if not for rehabilitation so many people around Ireland will not get the proper treatment after suffering a brain injury. Many will be left in acute hospitals or placed in nursing homes.. 19,000 people a year acquire a brain injury around the country with approximately 150,000 people living with one like my sister rebekah, 

Rebekah spent over 9 months in a acute medical hospital getting very limited rehabilitation for her injury in 2015 before heading to the NRH as Ireland has very limited support for people with  brain injuries and it falls on organisations like ABI to help survivors and their families come to terms and get help with what has happened.. A support much needed by many.. 

Without rehabilitation my sister would not know how to dress herself, brush her teeth or hair, these things any other person like rebekah takes for granted, rehabilitation is the only reason rebekah knows she has 3 sisters and 5 brothers and what her daughters name is and not forgetting what County she is from! . Rehabilitation is why on a sunny day if rebekah wants to go for a walk with her carers or play cards outside with her family she can. Rebekah and people who have suffered a brain injury in Ireland need rehabilitation on a continuous basis to get back to their full potential. With rebekahs injury being so severe it is unsure there will ever be a time that she doesn't need support but unlike a lot of other families rebekah is now within a 40 minute drive from her family after spending almost 3 years of being in different hospitals and rehabilitation centres near Dublin over 3 hours away.. If the money I raise can give one family in a time of need a bit of support on the end of the phone it really will be money well spent.
