Debbie's Walk a 1000 miles in 2022

Walk 1000 miles 2022 · 1 January 2022
I am asking my friends and family to please help me to raise money for the University College London Hospitals, Haematology Cancer Care. On the 1st January 2022 I took my first purposeful steps for the Walk 1000 Miles in 2022 Challenge. ( A virtual challenge from Lands’ End to John O Groats the long way! ) (www.walk1000miles.co.uk). This is a journey I plan to complete by 31st December 2022 I will post regular progress updates of my tracked miles on my Facebook page.
As many of you will already know, our son Jack was diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma in September 2021. A high-grade Non Hodgkin Lymphoma requiring intensive chemotherapy under the care of The University College London hospitals Haematology Team.
As his parents, we suspected that something was likely to be seriously wrong when his symptoms were under investigation, but at the point of diagnosis our world stopped and we felt like we had fallen off of the edge into a deep void, unable to do anything ourselves to fix him. The only thing we could do was entrust him to the medical professionals who, like the SUPERHEROES they are, transported him up to UCLH where the whole haematology team took the most amazing care of him.
Jack has been very lucky and now after completing 3 courses of chemotherapy, he is in remission. YAY!!!!
There were obviously many, many different services involved in Jacks care and treatment and for ALL of our SUPERHEROES, Barrie, I and our family will be forever grateful and we will never, ever be able to thank them enough for what they have done for him.
What we can do though is try to raise some money for the various charities over the coming years and by walking 1000 miles in 2022 I hope to be able to do just that for the Haematology Cancer Care
Charity at University College London Hospitals, so that the next person/family who needs them is as well supported as Jack and we have been. (Please see their statement below).
If you feel you would like to sponsor me on this journey or make a donation or even join me on a walk I will be so very grateful, as every pound raised will make the next mile I walk more meaningful :)
