Story
Crohn's & Colitis UK are the UK's leading charity for Crohn's and Colitis. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. I am taking part in the 2023 Crohn's & Colitis UK Skydive Day and your donation can help Crohn's & Colitis UK's mission to improve diagnosis and treatment; to fund research and raise awareness.
23 years ago I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. The illness effected me badly and at my worst I was going to the toilet about 30 times a day. I was incontinent and housebound.
When I was pregnant the illness came with a vengeance and 2 weeks after my son Seth was born I had emergency surgery and ended up with an ileostomy -a bag attached to my stomach that collects my poo basically.
Fast forward 17 years and Seth started with the same symptoms, and within the last few weeks we found out he has ulcerative colitis. Me and his dad are devastated, but the medication and support has changed in the 20 years or so. Seth can hopefully lead a normal life without surgery.
This is my way of showing him that I love him and even if he doesn’t want to talk (typical teenager) I’m here.
