Story
I was diagnosed with a grade 4 cancerous brain tumour called a Meduloblastoma in Oct 2017. This tumour is common in children but rare in adults especially over 40 years old. I had turned 40 earlier that year!!! It was undoubtedly the scariest & hardest thing myself & my family have been through but I consider myself one of the lucky ones. My tumour was successfully removed & following 8 weeks of daily radiotherapy & 3 lumber punctures later I was given the all clear. I still have check ups every 4 months which is blood tests & an hour long head & spine mri & this will continue for a total of 10 years. Nobody can prepare you for the impact this has on your life, your body & the lives of your family. As a consequence I live with symptoms daily but the mental journey is sometimes tougher especially when you approach that time for another check up & the scanxiety kicks in! It changes your whole outlook on life.
My hubby & both my boys are supporting me & joining me on the Twilight Walk in London on 25th March for the Brain Tumour Charity to help raise funds for ongoing research to hopefully one day find a cure.
I had and continue to have the most amazing support from family, friends & colleagues. I know that you will all support us for this event.
From the Charity: We'll march on London through Brain Tumour Awareness Month for everyone affected by brain tumours to help accelerate a cure. Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under the age of 40. We believe that fighting brain tumours on all fronts of research, awareness and support is the only way to save lives, reduce long-term disabilities and to help everyone affected by a brain tumour. We need your help because a cure can't wait.
