Story
Hello!
On Sunday 10th September I will be taking part in this year’s London to Brighton cycle. Anyone who knows me will probably be surprised by this as whilst I like a bike ride, I am not known for long-distance challenges! However, I have been inspired to take part by my
amazing colleagues at CPU London, who I have had the privilege of getting to know over the last two years. A group of us are taking part in this 55-mile cycle to raise much-needed funds for CPU London.
Camden Psychotherapy Unit (CPU London) is an independent
charity providing group and individual psychotherapy (usually for two years) for anyone who is worried about their emotional wellbeing. Historically it was funded by the NHS but this changed in 2010 when funding was cut after the financial crisis and CPU now fundraises to continue to provide services. It is one of the very few places in London which provides psychotherapy for free or low-cost and is staffed by a dedicated and inspirational team. The people who access this service often have complex and serious mental health problems, often compounded by financial, housing or other social disadvantages. Through the support they can access at CPU many of these people make meaningful and significant changes to their lives, in a way that may not have been possible without psychotherapy.
It costs around £1500 to provide a course of psychotherapy for one individual; I am aiming to raise £3,000 to provide this for two people. Thank you for anything you can donate.
