Story
Another year has gone by, a very tough year, and I’m once again walking the Moonlight Walk to help in the mammoth task of raising funds for Hospice In the Weald.
You may recall my words from last year – nothing has changed - other than through my volunteering (as a Wellbeing Therapist giving Reiki to both in and day patients as part of their palliative care) my appreciation of the incredibly wonderful support that HITW provides is stronger than
ever. Don’t just take my word for it, ask any of my fabulous (SDM) team – we held our team building event at the Hospice last year, creating 80 ceramic ‘forget-me-not' flowers, which are sold to help raise funds.
To remind you, my words from 2018: Hospice in the Weald is an extraordinary place full of extraordinary people, that I sincerely hope you never have to meet, whether this Hospice or any other.
HITW has a small and specialist ward where terminally ill patients receive compassionate, individualised, holistic and supportive care, and this is where Mark (and I) spent his last few weeks (514 days ago as I write this).
The Hospice is a charity, not part of the NHS, and needs £7m pa to operate, and to give this care (totally free to anyone that needs it).
The Moonlight Walk is one event hoping to raise funds in support of the £7m target. The walk is especially special to me as it’s in Knole Park National Trust in Sevenoaks: where Mark (and I) lived, where he and I walked, where Mark played golf, and where I scattered Mark’s ashes around his favourite viewpoint. I now have a beautiful memorial bench on this very spot, where I visit regularly as do his friends and fellow golfers, just to stop and chat a while with our Mark.
I rarely ask or do things like this, however, my world has changed and therefore so have I.
Any money you’re able to donate would be truly appreciated, not just by me but those that will benefit from this incredible and wonderful Hospice as their worlds change, and come to a close too.
Heartfelt thanks for anything you're able to donate.
