Story
"Stella's life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She was loved beyond words and is missed beyond measure."
Mum was a primary school teacher in her early career and spent the latter part working at the University of Westminster, London. Mum loved all people, befriending lecturers and students. She was often helping students from across the globe, especially with their written English dissertations. She was multilingual and quick to pick up languages. In particular she enjoyed practising her Swahili, with the African students.
Mum was passionate about education and strongly believed that it was the way out of poverty. From her experiences, particularly as a young girl, she knew that families were often forced to choose either between children being sent out to earn a living to support the family versus going to school to get an education and build a career. The latter could secure a cost-effective route out of poverty for families and was a key investment for an impoverished country.
Mum began donating to ‘Mary’s Meals’ many years ago. This charity provides nutritious meals to children in some of the poorest countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Caribbean. The promise of one good meal a day attracts hungry children into the classroom, giving them energy to learn and hope for a better future. The charity helps to feed and educate more than 2 million children every school day.
In memory of Mum, you might want to donate to Mary's Meals. For every £1 that is donated then 93p is spent directly on charitable activities. If you want to learn more, then please see www.marysmeals.org.uk; if you are able to to help, then THANK YOU!
