Story

26th April 2011 was meant to be a happy day it was my Son's first day at pre-school, but by teatime my world was turned upside down.  My Husband came home with my Mum to tell me that Dad's cancer was terminal.

Dad was given months, these turned to weeks, the weeks turned to days as the cancer had got a hold and continued too aggressively to control.  I watched as the man who I love lost weight, was weak and ultimately non-responsive due to sedation to relieve the excruciating pain that he was in. The man lying in the bed was not my Dad.

Dad died on 18th May 2011, 10 days after his 63rd birthday.  I was 5 months pregnant with my second child when we lost him.  He never got to meet my Daughter which is so very sad but she smiles at his picture when I tell her who he is, my Son and he were the best of friends.  My Son remembers his Grandad every day and at drink and biscuit time he does not take the broken ones from the tin as they are the ones that Grandad likes.

Anyone who knows me knows that this is so very close to my heart and St Catherine's is a fantastic charity who care so very much to those terminally ill.
