After saying to myself never again! I am running my second half marathon to raise funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK and in memory of my lovely Pops who sadly lost his battle with this disease last year.
40 years ago 3% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survived 5 years or more, that figure is still 3%. Other cancers, such as breast cancer has a 46% survival, compared with 80% today. Pancreatic cancer often goes undetected until it is already in stage 4 and inoperable for patients.
Despite its high death rate and lack of improvement in survival pancreatic cancer receives just 1% of funding for research. This needs changing and I hope the money you lovely people donate goes to help find better ways to treat this terrible disease. I would hate for anyone to go through what my family did and in such a short space of time.
Thinking of you always Dad, again, this is for you x
