Story
My Dad sadly passed away of pancreatic cancer in January 2013 and raising money towards some sort of cancer research has been on my mind since this time and I have finally decided to take the plunge and go for it and run half a marathon at the Great North Run in September.
I have chosen http://www.pancreaticcancer.org.uk/ as I would like to help fund more research. 40 years ago 3% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survived 5 years or more, that figure is still 3%. Other cancers, such as breast cancer had a 46% surivial, compared with 80% today. Pancreatic cancer often goes undetected untill it is already in stage 4 and usually unoperable for patients.
Despite its high death rate and lack of improvement in survival pancreatic cancer receives just 1% of funding for research. This needs changing and I hope the money you lovely people donate goes to help find better ways to treat this terrible disease. I would hate for anyone to go through what my family did.
Big Al, this is for you! x
