Thank you for taking an interest in this page. My partner Phil is running the half marathon in memory of my gorgeous son BEN who died of bone cancer (osteosarcoma) nearly 8 years ago aged 22 years. This cancer so often goes undiagnosed by doctors because the type of pain is often associated with childhood injuries. Ben was in pain and limping in his right knee and visited the doctor on several occasions but was told it was nothing serious, so 4 and a half months later when still no action was taken we decided to go to A & E and say he had fallen in order to get an x-ray. as soon as the x-ray was seen by A & E he was admitted that evening and our whole lives changed overnight as the pain was in fact a cancerous tumour. Ben then went through gruelling chemotherapy, surgery where he could have woken up with his leg amputated and radiotherapy. Ben died 2 and half years later when the cancer spread to his other leg, his spine, shoulders and eventually his lungs.
Nothing can bring back our Benny Boy, but fundraising for BCRT will hopefully not only raise awareness so that other children and young adults will get diagnosed quicker but also the research may find a cure or better treatment.
Please help us by donating to this page, any amount from £5.00 upwards to help us reach and exceed our target will be so appreciated.
And thank you so much to Phil West for doing all the hard work on the day and running the half marathon. XXXX
Thank you in advance to all who donate
