Story
In 2017 I reached that great age of 50 and
wanted a challenge for the year. For 30 years I have wanted to achieve one goal
and that is to run the LONDON MARATHON. For 15 of those years I was not able to
run, but thanks to an Amazing Surgeon Ms Elizabeth Adams – I have been back
running for 3yrs and enjoying a sport I have loved since the age of 16.
So what charity shall I run for- well that was a hard decision as a nurse who has worked in the NHS for nearly 30yrs many charity and organisation are close to my heart. But one little girl called POPPY caught my heart and admiration as she battles a genetic condition called Epidermylosis bullosa which effects 5000 people in the U.K. Put simply it means that she doesn't have the anchors that bind the skin layers together meaning
that friction and trauma cause her skin to blister and come away. She has
painful dressing changes every other day which she quite often needs morphine
to get through. It not only affects her skin but mucous membranes meaning that
she gets blisters in her mouth. As the skin is healing it becomes very itchy,
if she scratches it she scratches the skin away causing a lot of pain. One of
her problem areas is her feet. Most shoes she wears rub and cause the skin to
come away. Her feet get sore so she ends up in a wheelchair. But she fights on
running in her sports day, suffering immense blistering at the end. So POPPY, I am inspired by your fight, grit and determination. Please help me by donating as little or as much to help fight EB. Thank you so much.
