September 2021 update:
I have reached my target of £4000 for Pendennis Ward but why stop there? I’d now like to raise money for the Stoma Unit at Treliske. My initial and on going care from this incredible team of nurses is second to non. Please give generously to help support this unit. The planned London to Paris ride has had to be abandoned due to Covid 19 so instead we are riding a similar distance throughout Cornwall from September 23rd - 25th 2021. It will be 2 years since I was discharged that I shall take on this challenge, and I can’t wait!
In the early hours of Sunday 8th September 2019 an extraordinary number of people worked together at RCHT Treliske to save my life. I had experienced a very unlucky post operation haemorrhage having had my colon removed just 5 days before. Undergoing this planned surgery was no small undertaking but with each and every step of the way I couldn’t have asked for more from the incredible staff at Treliske. The procedure went extremely well and I was making a superb recovery under the tender care of the staff on Pendennis Ward. It was all the more shocking that an urgent return to theatre was required the day I should have been going home. How can I possibly thank the huge number of people who gave their time, expertise, dedication, compassion and skill to rescue me from a serious situation? It’s not just the brilliant surgeons but each and every one of the team in theatre, the crash team, the ICU doctors, the radiographers who gave me Ct scans in the wee hours and all the dozens of nurses, doctors and HCAs who pulled together for hours to keep me alive. I very nearly stopped fighting, but thank God I didn’t!
My medical treatment must have run into the hundreds of thousands of pounds. If I can raise just a small fraction of that through my own endeavours to put a small something back into our incredible NHS then I shall be delighted. Those of you who know me will be well aware that I am passionate about my bike riding. That I have been able to make a return to this treasured pastime so quickly is because of the treatment I have been lucky enough to receive and the ongoing care that I continue to have. Riding my bike and raising money for charity gives me an inordinate amount of pleasure. In 2018 ZebraCycle was a great success for EDS Uk and now I want to turn my energies to RCHC. What better way for me to rehabilitate, regain my endurance and overall fitness than to train throughout 2020/21 for a RCHC charity ride and say Thank You to a great institution.
Thanks so much for your support and generosity.
