‘The Haters are gonna hate, hate, hate, hate’

Taylor Swift/ trad.

The Now

The question I get the most when I meet folk today is ‘when’s that bloody thing coming off’ (particularly from Nelda) and this year the annual shearing of the beard has been delayed way beyond it’s usual date due to a colder than usual spring and misplaced sense of style on my part.

As I approach my 50th birthday and hopefully shift into adulthood, I thought it would be a good opportunity to build a lasting memorial and legacy for the beard.

For some it was a source of annoyance. For others it was a ridiculous folly and vanity project. For me it more than that...it was a friend who would listen, it was the illusion of that strong jawline I don’t possess and also a place to capture food debris/porridge.

Let’s put all of this to one side and lets remember the beard as a benevolent fundraiser.

The Future

This page will also allow those making donations to air their positive views(and maybe even the odd negative one)as well as your thoughts in the comments.

All of these comments will then be analysed and the data fed into an algorithm and used when considering future beard growth.

As I can’t afford the end duly fitting of a flaming arrow being shot into a long boat at sea, I will be instead live streaming it’s final moments on Facebook on my birthday.

Hopefully some of you folk could join me and spare a few pounds to hit my target which I have started with a £50 birthday celebratory donation.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
