Imagine if you had no home, no food, and nowhere you felt safe. That’s the nightmare facing over 250,000 people in the UK today.
On 26 May, big-hearted McDonald’s employees will give up their beds for one night to sleep outside at Harrogate
CEO Sleepout, which has been running events in aid of
homelessness for the past eight years, we launched a partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities UK, to create the inaugural McSleepout and raise essential funds for both charities.
Recent studies show the shocking truth around homelessness in England:
- Over 250,000 people in England are homeless and in temporary accommodation
- Over 61% of adults in England living in temporary accommodation are women
- Single parents make up 72% of all homeless families living in temporary accommodation, but only 24% of families
- 1 in 23 black households become homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless, compared to 1 in 83 households from all other ethnicities
- 24% of young homeless people in the UK are LGBT+
- More than half (55%) of people who make a homeless application are aged between 16 and 34

Sleeping on the ground for a night may be a little cold and uncomfortable, but it will be worth it because so we can try to change somebody’s life, and help support them back into independent living.
With the donation to RMHC Just £25 could enable the charity to provide free accommodation for a family for one night who are just trying to be close to their child. On average, families who stay in a Ronald McDonald House live more than 70 miles from the hospital their child is being treated in. More than 50,000 families have benefitted from a Ronald McDonald House since 1989 and with the current 12 houses and 425 rooms available, around 6,000 families could be accommodated in a year. We know that 89% of families said they would sleep on the floor to stay by their sick child's beside 24/7 and that 74% of parents would struggle to cover the cost of travelling to or staying near a hospital if their child was hospitalised. That's why this amazing charity is so essential and every penny raised will help a family in need.
