Story
Hello!
In January 2012 a very good friend of mine was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer after various tests. Later that year on 23rd June 2012 he passed away. This type of cancer does not have a high cure rate, with the life expectancy no longer than 6 months. I had the privilege of knowing this gentleman who knew how to enjoy life, and make the most of everything he had. A true example many of us should take note of. Macmillan helped not only John but his family and friends in so many ways during this time. Without the work this charity does this time would have been a lot harder for John and his family. It’s something I couldn’t do, and am very grateful there are people out there that can do it. As cancer affects so many of us, I see the work Macmillan do as essential to our society.
Macmillan are a source of support, helping with all the things that people affected by cancer want and need. It's not only patients who live with cancer, we also help carers, families and communities|. Macmillan guide people through the system, supporting them every step of the way. They fund nurses and other specialist health care professionals| and build cancer care centres|. But they give so much more than medical help.
People need practical support at home, so they provide anything from some precious time off for a carer, to a lift to hospital. People need emotional support, so they listen, advise and share information through their cancer support specialists, website and trained professionals. People need financial help| to cope with the extra costs cancer can bring, so they give benefits advice, and grants for anything from heating bills to travel costs. Together we listen, we learn, we act to help people live with cancer.
Any amount donated to this great charity will be appreciated not only did it help John enjoy life as much as possible, but many other cancer patients past and present. I am taking part in the 2013 London Olympic Triathlon to help raise money for this charity. This comprises of a 1 mile open water swim in the Themes, 40km bike, 10km run. Thanks again.
