Story
Hello all you lovely charitable people, here's what I'm up to...
After downing a bottle of wine one evening, whilst watching Eurosport (the wife was out) an Ironman event came on the TV. It showed the Elite athletes first, then normal people, who seemed to be getting slower and slower, some even started walking.
Stuffing M&S cheese puffs into my mouth, I thought to myself
"I could do that".
I had no idea what was ahead of me… Unable to swim front crawl for more than 50 meters, let alone 2.4 miles, had never cycled 112 miles before, and the only marathon I'd completed was 22 years ago ! With that in mind I entered an Ironman distance event (140.4 miles of swimming, cycling and running) I aim to raise as much money as possible for CHILDREN with CANCER UK.
Around 1,500 children are diagnosed with cancer every year in the UK.
The term ‘childhood’ cancer refers to the 0 to 14 year age group. In addition, around 1,900 15 to 24 year olds (referred to as teenagers and young adults) are diagnosed with cancer every year in the UK.
The good news is that three quarters of children diagnosed with cancer can now be cured.
The past few decades have seen dramatic improvements in the outcome for children diagnosed with cancer. Fifty years ago, only around a quarter of children diagnosed with cancer in Britain survived five years from diagnosis. Today, more than three quarters of children survive five years.
Raising awareness of childhood cancer is important so if you can't sponsor me please share my page or click on this link for more information.
