Story
I have joined Rock The Canyons Challenge October 2018!
During the week I will hike and camp for roughly 50+ miles through the Grand Canyon and Red Rock National Park in Arizona. The trek continues with Bryce and Zion Canyon in Utah, then ending in Vegas, while raising money for cancer.
This trip is through the Love Hope Strength Foundation co-founded by Mike Peters of The Alarm. I have been a fan of The Alarm since the 80’s along with my friend Sue Waters who will also be hiking with me.
I am definitely stepping out of my comfort zone in many ways! This is a huge challenge, one filled with excitement, emotion and much symbolism... First, I’ll be hiking and camping alongside of Mike and his wife Jules who are both battling cancer. Second, I’ll be turning 50 years old on October 20th and would like to do something I have never done before by challenging myself with new goals...and to celebrate my birthday. The Alarm is performing a private concert in Vegas, at the end of the journey, for all the trekkers! But the primary reason I am doing this is to honor my father, Robert A. Piso. This October will be his fifth year anniversary of his death caused from cancer. I thought it was the perfect time to give back, challenge myself physically, reconnect with a good friend, listen to great music along the way and make amazing memories in my father's name....
I have begun my training (in hiking boots!) in preparation for a long and steep adventure into the Canyons and back... I would like to raise a minimum of $3,500 in donations for cancer research. Please read about the Love Hope Strength Foundation and the wonderful work it has done for cancer all over the world, and consider donating to Rock the Canyons Challenge! Saving lives one concert at a time...
I would greatly appreciate anything that you can donate to this wonderful cause.
Thank you for your support! xo dawn
Founded in 2008 by Mike Peters of The Alarm and James Chippendale the Love Hope Strength Foundation promotes innovative, music related, outreach and awareness programs for leukemia and cancer sufferers, survivors and their families. The charity raises awareness and recruits potential donors to the organ and bone marrow registers. Our treks to Everest, Kilimanjaro, Snowdon and Fuji have funded projects in those regions and we have registered over 150,000 to the Bone Marrow Register and found over 3,000 potentially life-saving matches.
