Story
Dear family & friends
Thank you for taking the time to visit this page to find out about our chosen charity for donations in memory of our darling Dad and on behalf of his beloved wife and our Mum, Joy.
For us, it was not a difficult choice to choose this charity. Dementia is such a cruel disease. Yes, all charities are worthwhile, we understand that, but to witness someone you love fade before your very eyes is painful and tragic.
We were so blessed that Dad’s journey was not as debilitating as our darling Mum’s, but ultimately it caused his anxiety to go through the roof and that was very hard for us and was very frightening for him - at times he knew things weren’t right and just didn’t understand why. Dad always maintained some of his short-term memory and could be in the present, which again was tough on him at times.
To say dementia is random is an understatement. Why someone gets it and someone else doesn’t, we’ll never know and no two sufferers are the same – that’s for sure. Until you experience dementia with someone you love, you never really understand how sad it is, actually it’s heartbreaking.
If you are able to make a donation that would be wonderful. Donations can be made online here.
Having had support from Dementia nurses in the past and in the last few days of Dad’s life, we know how wonderful they are, but they need help to provide much needed support, not only to those with dementia, but equally as important to their loved ones.
Dementia takes away so much, but it never took away Dad’s love for his beloved Joy. Nothing can stop dementia, we know that, but we would love to support and help those living with dementia.
Thank you for reading this.
With love from Debbie & Dawn
