My journey has been - like many others - one of disappointment,  interruptions and setbacks. Like many people I have applied multiple times to the London Marathon ballot and always received the 'sorry not this time' email. Three years ago that changed with winning a place through our running club - Kingstone Runners - to be part of the 2020 marathon. A little pandemic put pay to that marathon taking place following which I developed the dreaded plantar fasciitis, and a little stress fracture in my foot. Fast forward to the beginning of 2022 and most injuries under control I have started running again. 

This marathon of all marathons is important to me as it is a dream shared with one of the most influential men I have known - my Dad. My Dad was an all round sports person but his love of athletics and in particular running rubbed off on me. The joy we shared watching events on TV and the awe that was inspired in both of us watching this marathon will remain with me forever.  My Dad is no longer with us following a short and humbling journey with pancreatic cancer in 2013. 

Like so many I have loved ones in my life presently that are courageously facing life changing conditions - including rare and incurable cancers. I have other loved ones in my life who are living through mental health issues, and chronic conditions / diagnoses that affect them or their children. All of these situations, as well as my one experiences and parenting of a child with additional needs makes me want to 'do' something. Bring a little bit of light and happiness into peoples everyday lives. Create love and laughter and hopefully some treasured memories.   

This is why I will be running the marathon for Barnsley Hospital Charity. The charity supports the Trust, the staff and the patients with events and practical support to make life a little bit brighter.

So over to me now and the matter of a little 26.2 run! I won't be the fastest but I can promise I will give it my all. Wish me luck!!
