Story
2020 has been a challenging year for so many of us. For adults with disabilities it has an extra layer of challenges. I cannot wrap my head around all that has been happening and coping can be difficult.
Adults with disabilities have an even greater difficulty with the pandemic. Why can't I hug my friends? Why do I have to wear a mask? Why can't I go to work? Why can't I see my family? The number of "why can't I" can be overwhelming.
I am not one to focus on the negative so let's find the positive. Yes, even from this bad situation good has come. Out of this otherwise bad situation many heroes have arose - community members, staff and residents alike.
The Our House staff has gone above and beyond keeping the residents save and healthy. During the early months of the pandemic many staff members lived in the group homes to help reduce the number of staff members who were coming into the homes. They created fun activities to keep the residents occupied and upbeat during the lockdown. Putting someone else's safety above your own is heroic in my mind.
I feel blessed to be a part of an organization with so many caring individuals.
The year has been challenging for many nonprofits. Our House has made it to the end of year when many nonprofits may not have been so lucky. Lucky to have a community of heroes! Please consider joining me and that community of heroes with a year-end gift.
