I'm really excited  to have been offered a place on the (government funded) International Citizenship Service global volunteering program with the amazing charity, Restless Development. (www.restlessdevelopment.org.uk www.ics-uk.org.uk) 

Restless Development is a youth led development agency that works towards channelling the positive power of young people to bring about real progress in developing countries. They do this by training, educating, supporting, empowering and inspiring young people to make responsible choices, while also giving them the skills and opportunities they need to contribute positively to society.

On the 30th of September, I'll be heading out to Zimbabwe (!!) to volunteer on the youth empowerment projects Restless Development lead. This can include…:

-        Sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS and gender awareness

-        Building livelihoods and life skills through workshops and training

-        Helping with the Girl Empowerment Movement in order to promote gender equality

-        …and more!

BUT… my place is conditional on me raising £800 for Restless Development and that’s where I need your help! RD reaches over 420 000 young people each year (at the annual cost of just £9 per young person) which wouldn’t be possible without the publics support through donations. Over 81% of their funds go directly to program implementation, leaving only 19% for management/admin/fundraising costs. Whatever you can spare, will be making a difference to people’s lives on the ground, where it matters.

On a more personal note…. Most of you will know that I had a pretty challenging start to the year and losing my wonderful mother is a huge part of what led me to this point. Caring for her was such a special time in my life, as short as it was, and it left me with the knowledge and determination that I want to do whatever I can to help others.
