Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our Just Giving Page.

On the 1 August 2012, aged 16 and 1 day, Nathaniel Brown was stabbed and killed in Bromley in London. Nat had an older brother and sister and loved his football; he was gifted player, winning numerous medals and trophies for his school and local teams and completed a work placement with the professional footballers association over the summer. His teammates looked up to him for his passion, encouragement and desire to make difference. He worked hard at school and achieves 7 G.C.S.E.s and had a place at North Kent College that he was supposed to take up in September 2012. Nat had a love of life, was funny, intelligent, and had everything to live for.

In memory of Nathaniel, and to help other young people growing up in difficult circumstances in the inner city, we have established the XLP Nathaniel Brown Legacy Fund – we want Nathaniel’s life to have an impact way beyond his 16 years and to give hope and opportunity to future generations of young people.

Nathaniel’s mum has worked for many years for a charity called XLP. XLP is working to create positive futures for young people growing up in the inner city and making a serious and sustainable impact upon poverty and educational failure.  One of their key projects is called XL-Sports, which uses football and mentoring to encourage children and young people to make wise life choices: to stay in schools and work hard, to stay away from gangs and gang culture, and to set goals for the future and work hard to achieve them.

All money donated to this fund will be used to help at risk children and young people who experience on a day-to-day basis, issues such as family breakdown, poor housing, unemployment, educational failure, low self-worth and struggling with the pressures of growing up in areas where gangs and drugs are common place.

Our hope is that this fund will help other young people avoid a repeat of the tragedy of the 1 August 2012 – either as perpetrator, or a victim. Please give as generously as you can, please give often, and please give out of compassion and love.
