Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Dawn Webster and I am 22 years old.On 6 November I will be travelling to Nepal to work on behalf of the charity VSO (Voluntary Services Abroad) which is an international development charity that creates a long term solution to global poverty. Their vision is a world without poverty and their mission is to bring people together to fight this.
VSO is one of six branch charities run under the ICS Scheme (International Citizenship Service). This scheme is run in partnership with the Millennium Development goals for 2015. ICS aims to send 7,000 young UK volunteers aged 18-25 to developing countries in Africa and Asia by 2015.
ICS is 90% funded by the Department of International Development. The other 10% of the money is raised by active citizens such as myself through fundraising and sponsorship.
I will depart to Nepal for a three month placement and will be based in the region of Lamjeng. During my stay I will be working to set in place sustainable development projects for the local community. These will include women’s rights and empowerment, improving livelihoods through looking into the health sectors and awareness of illnesses. Whilst also looking into economical development through sustainable farming techniques. Instead of doing this with idealistic views, I will be living in the community with a host family and working with Nepalese counterparts and the rest of my UK volunteering team. By immersing myself in the community I will be able to take the necessary steps to aid them in realising their communal goals and ultimately to develop sustainability.
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my page and I would therefor like to thank you for any donations that can contribute to the work VSO, and myself will be doing.
