Story
10 years ago I started running with a group of friends with the aim of completing the 10 mile Great South Run to raise money for The Sick Children’s Trust. In 2015 I stepped up my miles achieving my first half marathon, fundraising for The Sick Children’s Trust, in the Great North Run. I have completed 10 half marathons to date and turning 50 last year I set myself the challenge of doubling up to a marathon. Something I never ever said I would do! As well as this being a personal challenge it also marks 10 years since the passing of my friend’s daughter, Olivia. The Sick Children’s Trust provided accommodation at the hospital enabling Olivia’s parents to remain close to her at an emotional and difficult time. It costs £40 to support a family for one night and for any parent with a very sick child in hospital this is invaluable. Running for The Sick Children’s Trust makes me proud knowing the difference they made to Olivia’s parents and how many other families are able to benefit from this charity’s support.
