Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am cycling from London2Paris on behalf of Cure Leukaemia in dedication to a living hero i am also lucky enough to call my mate.
Adam Joyce is a 20 year veteran Fire Fighter, saving the lives of people (and cats) on a daily basis...
In his spare time he is Master of Ceremonies at the England Rugby fan village in Twickenham stadium, an excellent DJ, he leads a Samba band, and has also somehow found time to raise tens of thousands of pounds for charity!
I should also mention he has survived Leukaemia...
Adam became involved with Cure Leukaemia following a shock diagnosis when he was 22 years old. Adam was a seemingly fit and healthy firefighter in Birmingham, only 2 years earlier embarking on the start of his dream career.
Adam had minimal symptoms of tooth ache and tiredness; easily dismissed by most, but he was to learn that both were related to a rare form of blood cancer that would threaten his life.
Adam was given 50/50 chance of survival even with intensive, conventional chemotherapy treatments that saw him suffer the all-too familiar side-effects of total hair loss and losing 3 stone in weight to become a shadow of the fit and active young man he was. It was discussed with Adam very early-on that if the chemotherapy was unsuccessful then it would be potentially very difficult to find a bone marrow match for him owing to his very small family with no siblings. There was only 1 form of treatment available to Adam and all other patients at that time and that was the intense poisoning that chemotherapy is.
Adam was one of the fortunate patients who was strong enough and lucky enough to survive. Many didn't.
This was all before the charity 'Cure Leukaemia' was born, founded by the Professor who saved Adam’s life.
Having survived such a life-threatening illness Adam has been spurred into doing everything he can to raise awareness and funds to hopefully allow other leukaemia patients to follow a similar path and hear the three amazing words Adam heard all those years ago "you are cured".
Adam is the most positive and inspirational individual you could ever meet. By supporting me in this ride, you can help more heroes like Adam live a better life, avoid unnecessary suffering and ultimately, survive.
Cure Leukaemia is now one of the leading charities in the world supporting the development of new drug and transplant treatments for patients with blood cancers.
Support me and help us to take the gamble out of blood cancer survival.
The goal, to put Cure Leukaemia out of business.
This really is #MissionPossible!
