Story
The Chairman's Great Tommy Sleep Out is a fundraising challenge from RBLI Chairman Steve Rowbotham. It's designed to support the estimated 60,000 veterans that are experiencing homelessness in the UK right now.
I'm sleeping in a shelter under the stars whatever the weather on 23rd March, replicating the experience that many of our Nation's heroes have to cope with on a nightly basis.
For over 100 years RBLI have helped our most vulnerable veterans. Recent global events have had a massive impact, and the charity has reported a 45% increase in demand for their services for homeless veterans.
The cost of living crisis is having an impact on young, single, male veterans in particular who struggle to access social housing. Many find themselves on the street as a result. This has broader implications as it's impossible to find employment without a fixed address, plunging them into financial troubles and serious mental health struggles.
I'm joining a network of amazing people in the highways industry raising awareness of veteran homelessness and raising vital funds for RBLIs emergency accommodation, emergency supplies, welfare services and life-changing employability projects to support these vulnerable people.
This is an opportunity to change the future for some of our Nation's heroes. I ask you to please dig deep and give whatever you can to this fantastic charity and show your support for homeless veterans across the country.
