Story
This is my nan, Wyn, she is 91 and last year her poor sight was diagnosed as Age Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) which, left untreated, could have rendered her blind in both eyes. However, she is one of the lucky ones and has received treatment on the NHS and as part of a clinical trial which has arrested any further decline and has resulted in some slight improvements.
During this time she has received advice, support and equipment from the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) which has helped her adapt to her new circumstances and retain as much of her quality of life as possible.
By way of thanks I have decided to compete on behalf of the RNIB in my first Triathlon at Crystal Palace on the 31st May 2009. The event is made up of a 750m swim, 20km bike ride and 5km run. In respect of the event I have 2 aims, firstly to finish and secondly to raise as much money as possible for the RNIB.
I would appreciate it if you could sponsor me as much as you can. The company I work for, National Grid, will match all donations up to £400, so please give generously.
Cheers
Dave
p.s. If you don't want to sponsor me online let me know and you can give me any money you wish to donate directly. I'll make sure it gets to the RNIB.
