Story
Hi Guys!
Here we go again!!
As many of you already know I was all set to run the London Marathon back in April 2020. Being somewhat stubborn and not wanting my training to go to waste I individually ran a marathon and went on to complete the virtual London Marathon in October 2020. Finally, I now have the opportunity to run this years London Marathon on Sunday 3rd October, not alone, not virtually but with other runners and hopefully a crowd of supporters.
Many of you have already given so generously but if you could spare a little more myself and my family would be hugely grateful. Below is a little reminder of why I have decided to take on the challenge!!
I have always wanted to run the marathon for individual challenge but now find myself running for a far more personal reason.
In December 2018 our second son Finley was born. To our complete shock we were told that Finley had been born with a genetic disorder but no one quite knew what. Finley spent the first three weeks of his life in Neonatal before coming home just in time for Christmas. The next few months of Finley’s life were full of endless appointments and constant fear and worry. In March 2019 we received a diagnosis. Our beautiful boy had been born with a rare, life limiting condition known as Schinzel-Giedeon Syndrome. As a result of the condition Finley has a number of medical issues including sight and hearing impairments, seizures, skull and body deformities and is fed through a gastrostomy.
Myself and my wife Lauren have been caring for Finley since birth and are still getting used to a very different way of life. Fortunately for us we are able to spend time at Helen and Douglas House in Oxford. The children’s hospice provides us with much needed family respite several times a year. When there Finley is cared for by a team of amazing nurses and doctors in the most peaceful and caring environment. Myself and Lauren and our eldest son Danny are able to relax, enjoy home cooked meals, catch up on much needed sleep and most importantly spend quality time together without the daily worry and pressures of caring for Finley.
As a charity Helen House rely heavily on donations and public support. We would be devastated and at a complete loss if this tranquil little haven was no more. This is why I am taking it upon myself to run the London Marathon and with your help raise as much money as possible for Helen and Douglas House Children’s Hospice. I hope to raise approximately £2,500 but for those of you that know me, know I would love to smash this figure out the park! Please help my family and other families who face every parent’s worst nightmare by giving generously.
Thanks for your support with my London Marathon JustGiving challenge!
My page donations will be sent direct to the charity in a fast and secure way. Its efficient, saves time and cuts costs for the charity. Helen & Douglas House supports terminally ill children and their families so that they don't have to face unimaginable heartbreak alone. To keep providing the care and love these families depend on, the charity need to find over £3 million a year.
