Story
On 20th June I will be embarking on the challenge of a lifetime...a 10 day trek through forest, volcanic scree, snow and ice to hopefully reach the roof of Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro !
With temperatures from +20 to -20, a peak of 5,895m, air pressure half that at sea level and 7 hours walking a day, Kilimanjaro will be an enormous challenge for me...but despite my lack of trekking experience, it’s a challenge I’m very excited about and one I feel incredibly privileged to be able to face.
I know too at the end of each day as I nurse the blisters on my feet, climb into my mosquito net and try to acclimatise to the thin mountain air, it will be a tremendous source of strength and energy to know I’m also supporting the Alzheimer’s Society.
Alzheimer’s is the most common cause of dementia and with nearly 800,000 people affected by dementia in the UK, I along with many others know of people who have been affected by the disease. Unfortunately most forms of dementia cannot currently be cured and the number affected in the UK is expected to continue to rise.
I would therefore be extremely grateful if you could support the Alzheimer’s Society with any donation at all. The funds raised will support the research into the cause, cure, care and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this fund raising page and I really appreciate all the support you can provide for the challenge ahead.
Thank you very much indeed
Dave
