Hello and welcome to my justgiving page!

By visiting this site I trust that you already know a few details about my up and coming trip to Ghana this Summer. For those who aren't fully aware of the details, here is a brief outline:

 

On the 30th July 09 I will be flying out to Accra, Ghana to work with the 'Raising Hope Foundation'. The RHF works alongside and supports other charities in the Volta region of Ghana to provide food, shelter, education and welfare for orphaned and needy children. It was set up by one of my friends after she visited Ghana and was really touched by her experience out there.

This Summer the foundation intends to start work on building an orphanage for the 60+ orphans who are living in Wli in the Volta region. The land, planning permission and blueprints have already been obtained - but we still need funding for building materials, hire of local professional builders, further admin etc. An estimate of £60,000 has been given to complete the work.

To help raise this money the team took on the 'Three Peaks Challenge' on the weekend of the 11/12th July. It was a gruelling but enjoyable weekend and we came out on top (excuse the pun!). We are still looking for sponsorship for thiat weekend or continued support in the Foundations activities as a whole.

We really feel that this trip will be a life changing experience for us, but more importantly, for the orphans whom we will encounter and help to provide for. There are over 1 million orphans in Ghana alone! These children have no stable parental support, no guaranteed education or welfare, little hope of employment and often live very short lives. This sort of situation can only be rectified if people actively support charities such as RHF, in the giving of time, resources and prayer.

In countries like Ghana where £10 can get you a lot, that sort of donation will go a long way towards providing for many people. This orphanage will not only shelter todays children, but will still be providing that same care in years to come.
