We work to make international trade fair to tackle poverty all around the world

Story

Fairtrade is a lifeline to millions of people across the world, but there are many millions more to whom the benefits could be extended if only they could be part of it too.

The money I raise will go to the Fairtrade Innovation Fund which was set up specifically to provide support for those outside Fairtrade to help them become part of it. It brings the security of better working conditions and a sustainable income to those that arguably need it most.

Swimming in the busiest shipping lane in the World, in cold. salty water with strong currents, a large swell and, thanks to this year’s weather, a record population of jellyfish, is no small undertaking! Already I have had to spend hours and hours in cold water, without a wetsuit, just to get used to the temperatures we’ll be facing. Yes you read that correctly – no wetsuit!

I am aiming to raise £1800. The cost of bringing new participants into Fairtrade is about £150 which means that if I hit my target that's a dozen more families being given the opportunity to work their way out of poverty.

The crossing will take place between 27 August and 4 September depending on the tides and the conditions. Setting of at 3-4am we will not reach France until late afternoon. It will be a long day. Please give what you can.

Many thanks.

Fairtrade has changed the lives of over a million farmers and workers in the developing world. But there are many more still getting a bad deal from international trade. Support us and bring Fairtrade to more farmers, workers and their families, so that they too can work their own way out of poverty
