Story
Back in April 2015 we lost my husbands ( Peter ) Dad to Dementia. Luke was an amazing man. He was diagnosed with Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease in 2011 and from that moment, over the following 4 years, he would slowly deteriorate.
His loving wife and Peter’s mum, Lilian, did the most amazing job caring for him at home right up until the last point when a bad fall at home was to trigger the turning point.
Thankfully, both Peter and I had been spending more time in Devon with Lilian and Luke, assisting where we could and sharing as much time as we could. Lilian coped as long as her body could with the day to day care of Luke and ultimately fulfilling her and the whole families wish to keep him in his home environment for as long as possible.
As with many diseases and illnesses - Alzheimers disease - effects many more people than just the person suffering from it. Seeing your loved one slowly fade away, forgetting memories you created together and in some cases forgetting who you are is something that has left me passionate about doing what I can, to help minimise impact and hopefully find a cure for it.
Your support is appreciated
