This August I will complete my 60th year in relatively good health (with fitness improving!). Many of you have pushed and supported me over the past 10 years to complete various cycling challenges. This year I will be completing a few rides, one in particular, but then unclipping from my pedals, stepping off the bike, changing my footwear and setting my legs to work in a different way!
This year's three main challenges are:
- Velo Birmingham: a 100 mile ride that entails a few climbs around the West Midlands on 12th May.
- The 3 Peaks challenge: the ascent (and descent) of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mt. Snowdon - starting on the morning of August 2nd with the aim of finishing within 24 hours - that's 26 miles and 3000m (9,843ft) of ascent along with travel between each!
- Climbing Mera Peak: in the Himalayas of Nepal it stands at 6,476m (21,246ft) and is one of the highest trekking peaks in the world, affording views of five of the world's 8,000m peaks (including Everest) from its summit. I fly out on 3rd November and know that this will undoubtedly be the toughest challenge yet, which is why I really need your support and encouragement.
I have chosen to raise funds for QEHB because in 2015 they operated on my Mum to remove a very aggressive brain tumour. Although she passed away late 2016 I will always be grateful for the few months of life their extraordinary care and support gave her that she would not have otherwise had. If you haven't seen the recent BBC2 series on the work at QEHB - "Surgeons: At the edge of life" - you really must!
I am self-funding for all my challenges - meaning that your donation goes direct to QEHB. And please do not forget GiftAid where applicable!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
