Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I decided a few weeks ago to take on the challenge of the Manchester 100 mile bike ride in aid of Bolton Hospice.
For me it was an obvious choice to select Bolton Hospice as the charity I would support as they cared for Judith's dad, Bernard, before he died back in 1992. Unfortunately I never met Bernard but I know the family will be delighted that you are sponsoring me in his memory.
This was going to be a difficult challenge for me. I am not as young or fit as I used to be and I only started cycling at the end of June with a little 10 miler! Since then I quickly progressed to 20, then 30, before I struggled to complete 50 miles the week before the challenge. I seriously doubted I would be able to cycle the 100 miles, but with encouragement from family and work colleagues, I decided there was no turning back.
The four of us crossed the line in 6hours 29 minutes, (which included a tyre explosion after 15 miles and jammed chain at 30 miles, plus another couple of planned stops along the way) which beat Chris Fletchers previous record by 30 minutes. Fortunately no injuries, just aching legs and sore bums!!
To put some perspective on our ride, it’s the equivalent of cycling from Bolton to Carlisle, or just outside Bridlington!! It’s no wonder we were knackered!!
Thanks for your donations. You will never know how much your generosity means to me and Judith’s family.
