Story
On July 8th a young man, David Hart was killed while serving with 40 Commando Royal Marines in Afghanistan He was killed in an explosion while on foot patrol in Sangin District of Helmand Province.
He passed out for duty as a Royal Marines Commando on 16 October 2009, when he was awarded The Commando Medal.
The Commando Medal is awarded to the man who, throughout training, shows, to an outstanding degree, the qualities of the Commando Spirit. These are defined as: Determination, Courage, Cheerfulness and Unselfishness.
For those who did not have the pleasure of knowing David, this definintion sums him up perfectly.
In memory of David, a group of people from the York area are completing a coast to coast cycle ride (Whitehaven to Sunderland) on 1st October 2010 to raise funds for 'Help for Heroes' and I will be taking part in that ride.
We are trying to raise as much money as possible for the 'Help for Heroes' charity in honour of David in the hope that we can give something back to the brave members of the armed forces who have been wounded in the service of their country.
Please give as generously as you possibly can and pass this onto anyone you think may like to contribute. Remember that all donations will be doubled via the BP Matched Giving Scheme. If you would like anymore info on the 'help for heroes' charity or on the C2C challenge itself please see the links below:
Thanks to all those that have donated so far - CL 7th September
